Board and Room in a Mushroom
Featured artist Olga Ponomarenko
Opening reception: Saturday, June 9, 2018 * 6p-9p
For this exhibit, artist Olga Ponomarenko’s second featured spot, we will be treated to small meditative paintings of animals. This playful show explores how urbanization damages wilderness and forces wild animals to adapt to a citified existence.
Her paintings speak of the the ephemeral joys of daily life and are set within the ordinary doldrums of human existence. All of Olga’s paintings will be housed within a handmade and hand painted decorative mushroom frame.
Olga will be joined by a wonderful group of artists that will also explore how animals discover magic within the mundane of human existence.

Indigenous cultures throughout the world have long honored the sacred space that animals share in our lives. We can all benefit by knowing our own personal Spirit Animals, and the messages and lessons they have for us. For some, a spirit animal is an other worldly guide who appears to offer love, healing, and support during difficult times. To others, a spirit animal is the same as a totem animal – it’s who you really are. Much of the process of identifying your spirit animal is paying attention to both your past and your present. It is a process of developing your inner knowledge and spiritual understanding. You can often discover your spirit animal in dreams, meditations.
WOW x WOW is incredibly proud to present Super Reverie. This exhibition continues our tradition of un-themed art shows and features new and unexhibited work by over 40 talented international artists, all of whom share a passion for intriguing narratives, inventive symbolism and beguiling mystery. Along with these unifying characteristics, the participating artists are also brought together through their ability to not only listen to, but also develop the whisperings from their imaginations; a talent which is often aided by quiet downtime and attentive daydreaming. This daydreaming can be thought of as engagement in an enhanced and reflective reverie: a ‘Super Reverie’.

Arch Enemy challenged 19 artists to each create a moment or tell a story using only one of nature’s most basic building blocks. Exploring what’s as valuable as gold, bromine used as a tool of greed and deception, or phosphorus’ ability to bring light into the dark, each artist created a single piece using their own signature style and medium to bring science and creativity together in 19 moments, perfectly designed for this world. The show includes new works by 64 Colors, Alan Brown, Alex Eckman-Lawn, Allison Sommers, Chris Leib, David Seidman, Dewi Plass, Jason Limon, Jason Mowry, Jessica Dalva, Joe Vollan, John Walker, Johnie Thornton, Michael Reedy, Nick Sheehy, Paul Romano, Rachael Bridge, Sean Xenos, and Sergio Garcia.
Loteria is a traditional Mexican game of chance, similar to bingo, but uses images on a deck of cards instead of plain numbers. There are 54 images; each has a name and an assigned number. The cards are very colorful and the imagery on them is broadly recognized in all of Mexico, other Latin American countries, as well as European nations.
This is Cactus Gallery’s fourth annual “LOTERIA” themed exhibit. The exhibit will feature the original 54 images from the most commonly recognized standard deck by Pasatiempos Gallo, S.A.
RECEPTION: Saturday, April 14 * 6p-9p Join us for this charming show and play LOTERIA!
